QUICK STEPS TO FACTORY RESET A CHROMEBOOK (WIPE DATA)
- Sign out of your Chromebook (if you're signed in).
- Press these keys at the same time:
Ctrl + Alt + Shift + R
- In the box that pops up, click Restart.
- After it restarts, click Powerwash and then Continue.
- Your Chromebook will now factory reset — all data will be erased, and it will reboot fresh.
WHAT GETS ERASED:
- Local files (Downloads folder, custom settings, etc.)
- All user accounts and apps
- Any saved Wi-Fi, preferences, etc.
NOTE: Anything stored in Google Drive or synced with your Google account will not be deleted — only what's on the Chromebook itself.
Bonus Tip (For Selling or Donating):
If you're handing it off to someone else, make sure to remove the device from your Google account:
- Go to: https://myaccount.google.com
- Click Security > Your Devices
- Remove the Chromebook from your account so the next user won’t be locked out by FRP (Factory Reset Protection).
